Neutrik Ethercon cables last far longer than standard RJ-45 cables because the contacts are protected by a heavy duty aluminum shroud. But the shroud prevents the cables from connecting to standard RJ-45 jacks. The Ethercon to RJ-45 Adapter allows Neutrik Ethercon cables to be plugged into standard RJ-45 jacks.
