Aircraft cable, or aircraft arresting cable, is a metal rope strong enough to catch and hold airplanes on aircraft carriers. It is used in theater where strong, unbreakable, weight-bearing cable is required. Aircraft cables are designated by the number of strands in the cable times the number of wires in each strand. For example, a 7x19 cable is a cable with seven strands that contain 19 wires in each strand.
