Striplights

A theatrical striplight is a roller in our arsenal of stage lighting paint brushes. ÊIt is a classic wash light that is designed to give a large expanse of color. ÊStriplights are sometimes used to light a backdrop, the floor, or even used as foot lights to light a curtain, dancers toe shoes or just a general wash in the olden times. ÊIt is a long linear line of light bulbs that are circuited together to give you multiple lamps at a time. ÊUsually one would color each circuit with the same color. ÊVery common to see the primary colors of light in a three circuit striplight of red, blue and green. ÊSome striplights have four circuits and it is common to add an amber or leave one white. ÊIn many older proscenium houses you will see the stage have lines of these striplights, also called border lights, going across the stage. ÊThen with one very large dimmer you would have the stage be bathed in one singular color. When using them to light backdrops or cycs they could be positioned on top or on the bottom of the fabric. ÊThe units would often be circuited together in a daisy chain. They would have male plugs on one side and female plugs on the other. ÊThis way unit one could feed unit two and so on. ÊAlways make sure that the amount of wattage being powered does not exceed the weakest part of the circuit, often the first plug. ÊToday we still have the older incandescent versions and also LED versions.
